Website design for Coventry businesses

A website designed from the customer backwards: what they need to see, in what order, on the device they actually use.

01

Who this is for

Our website design work is mostly for Coventry businesses with between one and a hundred staff who need a site that brings in work, not just one that exists. That covers a wide spread: engineering and automotive suppliers selling to procurement teams, professional firms in the new offices around Friargate, trades covering Earlsdon, Tile Hill and Bedworth, independent shops and cafés, and young technology companies around the University of Warwick and Coventry University.

What these businesses share is that a visitor arrives with a question and leaves within seconds if the page does not answer it. Good Coventry website design is mostly about getting the right answer in front of the right person quickly, on whatever device they are using.

02

What is included, step by step

  1. Discovery. A call of about an hour covering your customers, services, competitors and what a good enquiry looks like. If you have an existing site, we pull its analytics and Search Console data first.
  2. Site plan. A list of every page, what it is for and which search terms it should answer, agreed before design starts.
  3. Wireframes. Grey-box layouts for the home page, a service page, a contact page and any unusual templates, shown at phone and desktop widths.
  4. Visual design. Your brand applied to the agreed layouts: type, colour, photography, buttons and form styles.
  5. Build. Usually a lean WordPress web build or a fast static site, depending on how often you will edit it.
  6. Content entry and checks. Copy and images loaded, page titles and descriptions written, structured data added, forms tested end to end.
  7. Launch and handover. DNS switched, analytics confirmed, a short training session and written notes on editing the site.

How long it takes

Project typeTypical timelineWhat usually sets the pace
Small brochure site, 5 to 8 pages3 to 5 weeksGetting copy and photos ready
Service business site, 10 to 25 pages6 to 10 weeksWriting service and area pages
Larger site with custom features2 to 4 monthsIntegrations and testing

The build itself is rarely the slow part. The schedule depends far more on how quickly decisions are made and content is supplied. We set dates for both sides at the start so nobody is surprised.

What drives the cost

Every quote we give is fixed and written, and quotes are free. The price is driven by a handful of things you can see in advance:

  • Number of unique templates. Twenty service pages built from one template cost far less than twenty pages each with a different layout.
  • Who writes the copy. If you supply finished copy, the cost drops. If we interview you and write it, that is time well spent but it is time.
  • Photography. Real photos of your premises and team make a big difference. A half-day shoot is often the best money spent on the project.
  • Features. Booking, quote calculators, file uploads, member areas and integrations all add build and testing time.
  • Migration. Moving and redirecting a large existing site takes careful work.

As a rough guide, a small, well-made brochure site from an independent studio in the West Midlands usually costs low thousands of pounds, and bigger sites with custom features cost more. We will tell you early if what you want does not fit your budget, and suggest what to leave for a second phase.

05

Common mistakes we help you avoid

  • Designing the desktop version first and squeezing it onto a phone afterwards.
  • A home page that talks about the company instead of what the customer needs.
  • One "Services" page listing everything, so no single service can rank in search.
  • Stock photos of people in suits shaking hands, which make a real business look like a template.
  • Contact forms that ask for too much, or that send to an inbox nobody checks.
  • Launching without redirects, analytics or a sitemap.

If you are weighing up platforms, our guide to choosing between WordPress, Shopify and a custom build sets out the trade-offs and running costs.

06

How we measure whether it worked

Before launch we agree what counts as success. For most Coventry businesses that is enquiries: form submissions, calls from the site, quote requests with drawings attached, bookings. We set up analytics to record those events, then check them at one month and three months after launch against the old site where we have data.

We also watch Search Console for impressions and clicks on your main terms, Core Web Vitals for speed, and any crawl errors. If something is not working, we say so and suggest a fix.

07

Design that suits the work you do

A precision engineering firm near Binley and a café on Far Gosford Street need very different sites, and we do not reuse a single house style. For B2B firms we lean on capability, standards and evidence. For hospitality and retail we lean on photography, opening hours and quick routes to book or buy. Our city centre page has more on the mix of businesses we see in the middle of Coventry, and the copywriting service covers how we help with the words.

Frequently asked questions

Do you use templates?

We build from our own tested components rather than buying off-the-shelf themes, so the site is lighter and looks like your business. We do not start from a blank page every time, which keeps costs sensible.

Will I be able to edit the site myself?

Yes. We set up editing so you can change text, images, team details and blog posts without touching code, and we give you written notes and a short training session.

Do you include SEO?

Every site includes the technical basics: clean structure, titles, descriptions, headings, structured data, a sitemap and good speed. Ongoing local SEO work is a separate service if you want it.

Can you work with our existing brand?

Yes. Most clients have a logo and colours already. If they need tidying up for screen use, our branding service can help.

Do you meet in person?

For Coventry and Warwickshire clients we are happy to meet at your premises, which often helps us understand the business and plan photography. Most of the project then runs by video call and email.
